In today's real estate market, it's more important than ever for agents to find ways to stand out from the crowd. With so many agents vying for the same clients, it's crucial to develop a strong brand and reputation that will set you apart from the competition. You can survive... but with the right knowledge and preparation, you can THRIVE!

Why is it so important to stand out as a real estate agent?

  • There are more real estate agents than ever before. According to the National Association of Realtors, there are over 1.5 million real estate agents in the United States.

  • Clients are more informed than ever before. Consumers have access to more information than ever before, thanks to the internet and social media. This means that they are more discerning when choosing a real estate agent.

  • Clients are looking for agents who can provide a unique and valuable experience.

So how can real estate agents stand out?

Know your value proposition.

Know your value proposition.

Know your value proposition!

Picture this: You are at a hotel at hop in the elevator. Someone else joins you and you do that awkward smile, stare at the buttons thing… Then they ask “So what do you do?”

You can say “I’m a real estate agent,” which... they likely know another 5-7. Or you use the next 20 seconds to tell them your value and what makes you SO much more than a real estate agent.

Think of your value proposition as your personal elevator pitch, the concise yet compelling summary of what makes you the perfect agent and advocate for your clients

Now, let's get down to the nitty-gritty of crafting your very own elevator pitch. Ultimately, the elevator pitch is only ~20 seconds, so you can’t review your whole life story.

There are two main components: 1. The problem and 2. The solution. Discuss the problem you solve and the solution you have. Here’s an example of what that may look like:

“Buying your first home is a big deal, and it can be overwhelming to know where to start. That's why I'm here to help. With my experience with first time homebuyers, I focus on education. I take the time to understand needs and budget, and then I'll go out and find the perfect home for you. Don't worry about a thing – I'll handle all the paperwork and negotiations so you can focus on what's important: making memories in your new home.”

Here’s another:

“The property investment market is so intricate, so I’ve dedicated time and energy to educating myself so that i can help my clients secure properties that generate impressive returns. I have a way of noticing those undervalued gems, and I help clients identify properties that align with their financial goals and maximizing ROI."

Good luck writing your own! Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Identify your target audience: Who are you trying to reach with your pitch?

  • Define your unique value proposition: What sets you apart from other realtors?

  • Keep it concise and memorable: Aim for a pitch that can be delivered in about 20 seconds.

  • Use strong action verbs

  • Highlight your achievements

  • Practice and refine: Rehearse your pitch to ensure it flows smoothly and conveys your message. Seek feedback from colleagues or friends to identify areas for improvement.

  • Tailor your pitch to the occasion: The business conference and PTA meeting will have different message delivery.

  • Be confident and enthusiastic: Your delivery is just as important as the content.
